DPIIT recognition makes your business an official startup. It brings benefits such as lower fees on trademarks and patents, easier tenders and access to government schemes.
Your business must meet all of these:
- It is a private limited company, an LLP or a registered partnership firm
- It was formed less than 10 years ago (a longer period applies to deep-tech startups)
- Its turnover has not gone above ₹100 crore in any year (a higher limit applies to deep-tech startups)
- It works on innovation, or a new or improved product, service or process, or has a scalable model that can create jobs or wealth
- It was not formed by splitting up or reconstructing an existing business
Rules are updated from time to time, so we confirm the current rules before filing.
- Fifty per cent lower fee on trademark filing and a large rebate on patent fees
- Fast-tracked patent examination
- Simpler rules for government tenders and public procurement
- Access to government funding schemes and fund-of-funds
- Self-certification under some labour and environment laws
- A path to an income tax exemption for eligible startups through a separate approval
- Certificate of incorporation or registration
- PAN of the entity
- Directors’ or partners’ details
- A short write-up on what your startup does and what is new about it
- Website link or pitch deck, if you have one
- Patent or award details, if any
- 1We check that your business qualifies.
- 2We help you write the description of your innovation in the way the portal asks.
- 3We create your profile and file the recognition application.
- 4We answer any query from the department.
- 5Your recognition certificate is issued, and we explain how to use the benefits.
Recognition is not a tax exemption by itself. The income tax benefit needs a separate application and approval, and we can handle that too. It also does not give you funding, but it makes it easier to apply for it.
Is there a government fee?
There is no fee to apply for DPIIT recognition.
Can a proprietorship get recognised?
No. Only private limited companies, LLPs and registered partnership firms can. We can help you convert first. See our Business Registration pages.
How long does recognition take?
Often a few working days to a few weeks, depending on whether the department asks questions.
Do I need to renew it?
Recognition lasts while you meet the conditions. We tell you when to update your profile.
General information, not professional advice. Tax rates, limits and due dates change, so we confirm the current position for your case before we file. Government fees are separate from our service charge and are quoted before work begins.
