After filing, you can follow your trademark application online. You need the application number or the mark name.
Where to check
The Trademark Registry (IP India) provides a public search and an online register where you can look up an application by number or by name of the mark. The result shows the current status and the history.
What the common statuses mean
- Formalities check pass: the application has been received and accepted for processing.
- Marked for exam: it is waiting for the examiner.
- Objected: the examiner has raised objections; a reply is due within the prescribed time.
- Accepted and advertised: the mark is published in the Trademark Journal and open to opposition.
- Opposed: a third party has opposed the mark.
- Registered: the mark is registered.
- Refused, abandoned or removed: the application has ended without registration.
What to do next
If your status is Objected or Opposed, a timely reply is important. Send us the application number and we will check the status and advise.
Common questions
Can I check someone else's trademark?
Yes. The register is public, which is why a search before filing is useful.
